I never in my life realized that buying a few outdoor cushions was going to be such an integral part of my adult years.  When I look back on my life, I’ll probably remember looking at hundreds of outdoor cushions… so many, in fact, that my Facebook advertisements are entirely composed of outdoor cushions.  My day dreams are composed of walking dreamily into a store’s clearance section and scoring matching outdoor cushions for a steal.  Is it too much to ask that a store sell high end outdoor cushions that are truly waterproof and less than $20?!  Apparently, yes.  It is.

My search began at Ikea.  I went with a friend and promised I was just going to pick up a few quick items. HA!  Little did she know that I had a water bottle in hand (to check how waterproof those cushions TRULY were) and that she would be forced to sit on “THIS cushion, now THAT cushion, now THIS cushion, oh look at THAT cushion” before I would leave and complain that none were what I was exactly looking for.  She’s a kind soul.  I did decide that the ARHOLMA cushions were the best of IKEA, but altogether they would cost me $195 (for 5 back cushions, and 4 seat cushions).Screen Shot 2015-06-08 at 8.46.46 AM—————————————————————————————————-

I then went on an extreme internet hunt for the best deal.  I wanted the cushions to be waterproof, durable, washable (with zippers), and cheap.  Here are a few of my finds:

Lowe’s: $140 Total

Pro: High quality of fabric and great reviews.

Con: No separate matching pillows sold for my corner seat.

World Market: Total: $160

Pros:PRICE, Washable slipcovers and cushions, Mildew and moisture resistant, Extra pillows

Cons: Only one color… white.  I’m a little concerned about liquid spills.  The size isn’t exactly what I need.

I also looked at Target, Macy’s, Walmart, Amazon, Overstocked, and several of the flash sale websites with no luck in the slightest.

I ended up puchasing the Solano cushions from World Market (with free shipping!!) due to the rave reviews. I received them a few days later (free, FAST shipping!!), and the boxes were huge!

We pulled them out to inspect them, and the quality was better than anything I had seen elsewhere (in my price bracket). Unfortunately, they were slightly too large for our sectional, which I already foresaw.

The overhang on the sides bothers me a lot, but the front protrudes in a way that feels natural. My husband offered to build spacers between the seats to make the cushions fit better…

I’m not sure if I’m on board with his idea, but I’m tired of googling “patio cushions.”  We’ll see how it turns out!

Update:  I have recently discovered (and ordered) a product that can make ANY FABRIC outdoor proof!!  Basically, it’s a blessing!  It can be a bit expensive since it is generally used to restore the water-repelling ability of Marine-grade fabrics.  I’ll be adding it to any of my purchases just to further protect them!
